A battery string trimmer is the tool most yards need after the mower. The six models below run from a 4-pound, 12-inch trimmer for edging a small lawn to 17-inch trimmers that take thicker line for long fence lines and heavy weeds. Runtimes are the makers’ “up to” figures with the battery in the kit. EGO notes that runtime depends on the battery, its charge, the grass and how you trim.

1. Greenworks 24V 12″ Brushless String Trimmer (ST1232): for small yards and light trimming
This is the lightest trimmer here. Greenworks lists it at 4.08 pounds without the battery, with a brushless motor rated up to 8,500 RPM, a 12-inch cutting path and an auto-feed head for 0.065-inch line. The kit includes a 24V 2.0Ah battery and a 30W USB-C charger; Greenworks says the charger can also charge phones, tablets and laptops.

2. EGO POWER+ 15″ String Trimmer with Rapid Reload (ST1502SA): an entry point to the EGO 56V platform
In EGO’s 2026 catalog chart, the ST1502SA is the only model with a fixed (non-telescopic) aluminum shaft. It has a brushless motor with variable speed up to 4,000 to 5,800 RPM, soft start and EGO’s Rapid Reload head. It cuts a 15-inch path with 0.095-inch dual line, the same line size as EGO’s larger trimmers.

3. EGO POWER+ 15″ POWERLOAD String Trimmer, Telescopic Aluminum Shaft (ST1511T): for easy line reloading on a mid-size yard
POWERLOAD is EGO’s line-winding system: the catalog describes inserting the line through the eyelet, pulling it until both lengths are equal, then pressing and holding the line-loading button so the motor winds it. This model adds a telescopic aluminum shaft and a 2-speed variable control, and EGO rates it up to 45 minutes with its 2.5Ah kit battery.

Greenworks describes its 80V 17-inch trimmer as equivalent in power to a 30cc gas trimmer and suited to trimming half an acre. It uses 0.095-inch dual spiral line, and the kit includes precut 0.105-inch line as well. The 2.0Ah battery recharges in 60 minutes, and Greenworks rates runtime at up to 30 minutes.

The kit includes a 4.0Ah battery and a 320W charger, and EGO rates runtime at up to 60 minutes.
